Résumé:
We report the first experimental observation of a shocked transverse wave in elastic medium. The experiment usese a novel ultarfast ultrasonic scanner to map the dislacement field of a low frequency shear wave within a soft solid(an Agar-gelatin based phantom). A good agreement is found between the experiments and a numerical simulation of the modified Burger's equation that describes the particular nonlinear behavior of a finite-amplitude transverse wave.
